Reflecting the growing environmental awareness in our country, in parallel with global environmental perceptions, the Marzinc investment was established by five leading Turkish steel producers – Çolakoğlu, Diler, İçdaş, Kaptan, and Kroman – to recover zinc metal from flue dust resulting from the scrap metal process.
The facility, whose main purpose is to recover EAF dust from the production of the joint ventures in an environmentally friendly and economical way, has the capacity to obtain around 50,000 tons of zinc oxide from nearly 200,000 tons of flue dust per year.
Established with advanced and modern technology, Marzinc produces in a much more environmentally friendly and efficient way than its counterparts worldwide. The facility, which exports all of its high-quality products to foreign markets, has been contributing to recycling and the Turkish economy since January 2013.
Environmentally friendly production technology
The "Waelz Process," the only globally proven method for flue dust recovery, is also used in the recovery of flue dust generated during steel production in Europe. EU countries generate between 750,000 and 1,200,000 tons of flue dust per year, and the Union supports the recycling of this dust through facilities similar to Marzinc.

Established through a partnership of five major steel companies and benefiting from their over 60 years of deep experience, Marzinc is constantly raising the bar in the zinc industry. The company aims to establish a metallic zinc production facility to make Waelz zinc oxide concentrate, currently exported from Türkiye due to its lack of metallic processing, available for domestic use. Considering the iron content of the slag from the existing facility, it can be used as an alternative raw material to iron ore in cement factories. Necessary R&D studies are ongoing to explore more efficient use of slag as an alternative raw material, taking into account the needs of cement companies. With its strong social responsibility and know-how, the Marzinc team aims to invest in similar projects that contribute to the Turkish economy and environment, and to maintain its pioneering role in its field in Türkiye.
